A newborn can’t fight off bacterial infection the way a one or two month old can, and breastfeeding only contributes so much to their immunity. So just grin and bear it for the 4-6 weeks you have to wash your hands for. After that, it’s not really as critical as you think, but I wouldn’t let them go eating mud from a sheep farm just yet either…
